Here are some quotes from the amazing 80's interviews you will read in the new book THE NETWORK INTERVIEWS!
BON JOVI
On "Slippery When Wet" - "The original title was going to be Wanted Dead or Alive. But when we took the pictures for it, they seemed so posed. It was just terrible and were getting a little out there and having a couple of beers in this bar and we were waiting for this girl that was dancing. In Vancouver, the girls take off everything!"
GUNS 'N ROSES - SLASH
On drinking some Jack Daniels: "Usually about a liter a night. No, that’s not true. Only when I’m on the road. But when I’m home, like when I’m hanging out, the only time when I really drink that much is when I go out. When I hang around the house, I don’t drink as much. I live with my girlfriend, and she gets fuckin’ pissed off when I do so…it’s a bigger pain in the ass than it’s worth. Plus, I’m gonna kill myself if I keep it up. You just gotta do it while you’re at it, you know what I mean? Just have a good time while you’re here. If you spend too much time just trying to preserve yourself so you can be around for a long time, it makes life too boring. It makes you paranoid. So that’s been my philosophy about it. I really don’t give a shit really, about five years down the line, as long as we’re happening, right now, as long as I’m here, you know what I’m saying?"
KISS - PAUL STANLEY
On any originals reunion: "For there to be a reunion of a band, a band has to break up. This band never broke up. You can’t have somebody come back when there’s no room. If you’re not in the band anymore, you’re not in the band! KISS is Gene, myself, Eric and Bruce. I can answer that with a capital N and O."
OZZY OSBOURNE
On Randy Rhodes' death: "I was there in our tour bus, sleeping, and Randy (bassist Sarzo) and my wife were sleeping too. It was like a Hitchcock movie. Randy hated flying. It wasn’t a practical joke. Our bus driver also flew, and he took Randy up with him, and the rest was like a horror movie. When someone dies so horrific, unexpected…one minute they’re with you, the next they’re gone. I stuffed it, and it’s only now I realize how much I miss him. When we first got to the bus depot, no one could speak. I felt so bad, so helpless. He was so close to his mother, and telling her…I feel as I were there, as it were yesterday."
POISON - C.C. DEVILLE
On being yourself: "If you want to wear pink shoelaces, wear them! Fuck your friends! You got to do what you believe in, no matter what anybody else says. You got a dream, you got to go for it. We’re not great musicians, we’ve gotten everything from our shows; we really shine in our showmanship. That’s what made us. We get it from the audience and we give it back."
METALLICA - LARS ULRICH
On making videos for MTV: "“Fuck that shit! There just hasn’t been a great need for it. If the right song and the right music comes along and it’s cool for what we do, then we’ll do a promo video for it. So far that really hasn’t been the case at all. I think Metallica’s venture into the video bullshit is about as opposite as you can get from all the other bands that put out that crap. So I think this is the right thing at the right time for what we’re doing. Maybe in a couple of years and a couple of tours down the line we’ll do like an Iron Maiden-type video, where we’ll include our whole show. We just want people to know that this isn’t the type of shit that we’d doctor up."
ALICE COOPER
On Tipper Gore and the PMRC: "They’ve tried to get me to have lunch with her, tried to get me to debate her, everything short of having sex with her. I’ve found that by lending your name to her organization, you are falling into a trap by adding to their politics and publicity. You don’t have to debate her, just ignore her. You know what pisses me off about her the most? The attitude she and group have towards kids. They think that all kids are created stupid and I don’t for a second believe that. I see the kids in the audience. They’re not stupid. I mean, they’ve seen Star Wars. These kids are programming computers."
HOWARD STERN
On moving to a morning radio timeslot: "The show will be unlike anything done before on radio. We're throwing a party everyday and you're all invited! It's not made for television, television isn't ready for what we have planned."
